Houston’s run-away train of an economy is generating a slew of national media attention. Most intriguing is an article in The Atlantic, written by senior editor Derek Thompson. Based on interviews with Patrick Jankowski, an economist and vice president of research at the Greater Houston Partnership, Thompson proposes that the Great Recession was different in Houston for two reasons: the city’s ability to learn from past mistakes, and the relatively advanced age of its energy-sector workers.
