Champions Forest - 1960 Area

Northwest Houston’s first subdivision, the “Champions,” was developed 25 years ago and gave its name to the entire area between Highway 249 and Interstate 45. Proximity to Houston Intercontinental Airport and the Sam Houston/Beltway 8 Toll Way provide easy access to anywhere in the city, and to recreation spots on Lakes Conroe and Houston. The recent extension of Highway 290 to Highway 6 is a welcomed development that has facilitated the relaxed style of living identified with Champions/1960.

A number of subdivisions comprise the Champions area, including Olde Oaks, Northgate Forest, Ravenaux, and Champion Forest, and prices range from near $200,000 to several millions for large golf-course lots. Excellent shopping, dining and entertainment abound along FM 1960, and in several major shopping centers.

Many fine country clubs and golf courses are found in the Champions area. The jewel-in-the-crown, however, is the Champions Golf Club, one of the most tradition-laden golf facilities in America. Founded in 1958 by Jack Burke, Jr., and the late Jimmy Demaret, a three-time Masters winner, Champions Golf Club has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments, including the Ryder Cup, The United States Open, the Nabisco Championship, the U.S. Amateur, THE TOUR Championship, U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, and the Champions International. The club’s Cypress Creek course, designed by Ralph Plummer, measures 7,200 yards and plays to a par of 36-35—71. Its wide fairways and enormous greens consistently qualify it as a premier tournament site.

The custom homes in a wooded setting found in Champions Forest hold a certain prestige, and the mansions overlooking the Ravenaux Country Club command their share of attention. Architectural styles are traditional, and include Colonial, French Traditional, and Tudor. With such a wide range of choices, residents commonly upsize or downsize within the neighborhood. Champion Forest Villas, patio homes offering a low-maintenance lifestyle, are particularly popular with empty-nesters.

Slightly rolling terrain, gorgeous homes, first-class golf courses, and proximity to everything make Champions/1960 one of Houston’s most well-planned, elegant, and vibrant neighborhoods.
